Vice President of Marketing

Our client, a recognized national retailer, is in search of a Vice President of Marketing. This leader will have overall accountability for Marketing including in-store, digital and e-commerce. This role is based in Toronto.

As Vice President of Marketing, you will direct and oversee all areas of our Marketing department.  Reporting directly to the President, you will design, implement, and monitor effective marketing strategies that align with the organization's business goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a cohesive marketing plan to increase brand awareness
  • Build strategies to amplify and accelerate digital marketing efforts, to increase traffic and sales for e-commerce as well as brick & mortar
  • Promote and communicate the organization’s marketing vision and ensure team is executing
  • Ensure in-store, digital & traditional marketing strategies are aligned to optimize customer response & experience
  • Analyze & research marketing trends for the customer experience and the market to develop the best promotional strategies
  • Research competitor advertising, compare products & pricing in the market, conduct dialogues with suppliers, review market research statistics and feedback to identify and take action where opportunities exist
  • Within the assigned budget, direct activities and resources to optimize ROI
  • Conduct post mortem analytics and review of execution of strategies & tactics, including:  sales and gross profit planning as well as other key metrics; based on findings determine resolutions and take action as appropriate
  • Identify and negotiate opportunities with vendor partners
  • Ensure advertising compliance requirements are met [checkerboard compliance]
  • Build and develop teams to align talent to organizational strategies and growth
  • Provide ongoing coaching and open lines of communication with direct reports
  • Conduct regular talent reviews, build development & succession plans
  • Promote a culture of engagement, providing training & development opportunities, autonomy for decision-making and clear expectations for accountability
Requirements:
  • 5+ years experience in a senior marketing role, expert in digital marketing
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing
  • Broad retail experience including working knowledge of Supply Chain (including replenishment), Merchandising, Store Operations, Finance
  • Passion for product and people including the ability to lead and work cross functionally
  • Proven ability to deliver marketing strategies & campaigns that resonate with customers
  • Innovative technical and creative savvy and skill
  • Strong customer orientation [consumer insights]
  • Results driven, strategic thinking and an ability to influence others
  • Timely decision making/action oriented skills
  • Vendor management skills
  • Resilience and energy
