Our client, a renowned organization offering a broad scope of solutions, conducting research and helping organizations build leadership capacity, has partnered with The Talent Company to help recruit for a Director, Business Development to support growing demand and capitalize on emerging opportunities. In this newly created position, the successful candidate will play a key role in building a centralized sales structure and leading and motivating a dynamic team of sales professionals. Cultivating a consultative, collaborative and integrated sales culture with a primary objective of increasing cross-organization sales and driving revenue growth will also be part of the remit.

Reporting to the Vice President, Organizational Performance, this is a full-time permanent position located in Ottawa, Ontario.

Main responsibilities
  • Play a lead role in the transformation to a centralized sales structure.
  • Develop a highly aligned, motivated and engaged sales team.
  • Oversee the strategic sales planning and objective setting process to deliver on growth objectives.
  • Monitor market conditions, successfully adapting to emerging customer opportunities and challenges.
  • Maximize productivity and results through implementing, monitoring and reporting on key sales performance metrics. Coach and develop team members as they grow new and existing customer revenues across a portfolio of products.
  • Develop and manage a robust, metrics-driven sales pipeline. Provide clear insight on the status of leads, sales performance and reporting.
  • Provide accurate sales forecasts and projections.
  • Define and implement a consistent approach to new client acquisition and account management.
  • Collaborate with business line leaders to identify and partner on account growth and new client pursuit opportunities.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new sales leads, ensuring a qualified and robust personal pipeline of prospects and key account relationships. 
  • Build and deliver high-impact winning proposals and client presentations.
  • Work closely with marketing and customer experience team to define and develop new sales programs, innovative sales campaigns and lead generation, conversion and retention strategies.
  • Produce high quality work and demonstrate professional values in all aspects of projects and interactions with colleagues and customers.
Experience, Skills and Requirements
 
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressive professional sales roles.
  • Effective team leader, coach and mentor with a successful track record in leading and motivating sales teams to deliver outstanding results.
  • Setting sales strategies and targets, growing new markets and expanding existing client bases.
  • Player-coach approach. Equally comfortable in the role of sales leader and in the role of a hands-on business developer, actively engaged in personally selling
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to effectively partner and work cross-functionally.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience using a CRM system.
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours – overnight travel is required.
