Production Manager

Our client, an international food services organization has retained the assistance of The Talent Company to recruit for a Production Manager for their state of the art South-Western Ontario plant.
 
The ideal candidate is forward thinking, action oriented and has the experience to deliver results through operational excellence and people leadership. Of particular note are specific KPI’s including Health & Safety, Food Safety, Quality, Run Rate and Waste.
 
Additional Responsibilities Include:
  • Ensuring the production plan is fully achieved, on time and in compliance with health and safety, product safety, product quality, hygiene, cost and environmental requirements.
  • Optimizing production, resource planning and ensuring all required production resources have been scheduled.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with union representatives and provide important input into any negotiating process.
  • Follow up and completion of corrective actions. Measure efficiency of implemented processes and continuously drive improvements, motivating, supporting and empowering team members to fully develop their capability.
  • Lead a team of supervisors (production, sanitation and warehouse) and make decisions on the day-to-day activities affecting the manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure production efficiency related to raw materials, semi-finished and finished goods, with an emphasis on keeping production loss and waste to a minimum.
  • Partner with HR to assign positions and make changes as needed based on performance, abilities, etc., as well as take disciplinary action if/where needed.
  • Guide production planning and logistics with mid-term and weekly planning; oversee the production schedule and ensure the availability of all required resources.
  • Take the lead in ensuring food safety is communicated and exemplified throughout the organization, as it is a vital part of company culture.
 
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in similar, managerial positions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience utilizing a flexible leadership style that promotes active communication, respect for colleagues, professional/career development while maintaining time sensitive product output and a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Ideally, production leadership experience within a food-manufacturing environment.
  • Sound knowledge of hygiene and food safety standards (ie.HACCP, GMPs) and the ability to convey and maintain those standards.
  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety in an industrial manufacturing environment and experience leading by example within this discipline.
  • Familiarity with highly automated industrial scale equipment (Ideally ovens, freezers, packaging equipment, etc).
  • Excellent presence, influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Experience managing within a unionized environment.
  • Experience with utilizing a lean management approach.
  • Strong working knowledge of managing to KPI’s.
  • A personal sense of accountability and flexibility that supports leading and being available for a fast paced, sophisticated production environment (two daily production schedules and night time sanitation).
  • Working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and SAP (an asset).
  • Highly organized and excellent time management experience.
