Health, Safety & Environment Manager

The Talent Company is pleased to be working with a Scarborough based leader in the manufacturing space to hire a Health, Safety & Environment Manager. Reporting to the Vice President of Supply Chain, the role supports the growth and profitability of the company by proactively analyzing, designing and implementing health, safety and environment strategies and programs.
  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing Health and Safety strategies
  • Establish, implement and enforce H&S policies, practices and programs
  • Work collaboratively with Managers/Team leaders to Identify and evaluate risks associated with hazards in the workplace and recommend changes to eliminate or control these hazards
  • Provide support to management, employees and contractors in the area of health and safety and environment
  • Co-Chair the Joint H&S Committee
  • Develop and implement safety statistics reporting and other H&S reporting
  • Stay abreast of current H&S legislation and ensure compliance
  • Assist/provide consultation on accident investigation to identify root cause and appropriate corrective/preventative action
  • Conduct ongoing inspections and audits for safety hazards
  • Plan, organize, develop and implement H&S training including annual refresher training
  • Coordinate and administer training records for all required training and orientation.
  • Develop and implement environmental policies and procedures
  • Lead the organization through the process to obtain ISO 14001 certification
  • Lead and support required environmental compliance projects
  • Drive Environmental strategy and establish key metrics
  • Lead implementation of the ISO framework
  • Initiate the maintenance of requiring Permits and C of A’s
  • Train region HSE Regional Managers leaders on Environmental management
  • Drive Energy Targets
  • Minimum of 7 years progressive Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field
  • Certified Registered Safety Professional designation (CRSP) is required
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of all relevant occupational H&S legislation
  • Strong customer service skills with an ability to handle issues/inquiries in a professional manner
  • Excellent understanding of workflow process analysis, accident/ incident investigation and risk management principles
  • Excellent planning, time management and organizational skills with a demonstrated record of safety performance improvement
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, SharePoint and Learning Management Systems
  • Ergonomic experience an asset
