HRIS & Payroll Analyst

This position will maintain the HRIS system which manages, compiles, stores and reports employment related data for the Human Resources department as well as analyze, audit, and implement HRIS computer system modules (human resources, compensation, payroll and benefits).
In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing the day to day payroll and benefits administration.  The position is responsible for preparing the payroll, ensuring compliance to accounting and audit procedures, preparing remittances/journal entries, inputting data into various systems such as Payroll, HRIS, and Benefits/RRSP Administration.  
  • Oversee the HRIS system and all HRIS reporting requests.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements to existing system processes, procedures, configurations, documentation and reporting.
  • Respond to auditing and regulatory inquiries
  • Assist with audit requests and other ad hoc analysis requests
  • Maintains integrity and accuracy of database
  • Provides bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly Leadership and management reporting packages
  • Adhoc projects as required.
  • Verifies and audits all payroll data for new associates, transfers, terminations and changes.
  • Reviews, inputs and uploads pay data files into web-based payroll system.  
  • Performs manual calculations for applicable adjustments such as vacation, sick, bonus payments, taxable benefits and special adjustments.
  • Records changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, garnishments etc.
  • Prepares and issues pay cheques/direct deposits.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll laws and regulations.
  • Answers questions regarding any payroll –related problems (ie. Pay, time/labour system hours, vacation, sick time accruals, changes to employee record etc.) and initiates corrective action.
  • Prepares and distributes Record of Employment forms. Communicates with Services Canada and any other provincial agencies to confirm ROE information.
  • Prepares government remittances, journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual procedures such as year-end balancing and T4/R1 preparation.
  • Prepares year-end payroll filings such as Employer Health Tax and WCB.
  • Provides assistance in identifying process/system improvement opportunities to increase efficiencies.
  • Assists with the administration and communication of benefit and RRSP programs.
  • Enrolls associates in the appropriate benefit plan and administers processes with various benefits providers.
  • Performs regular audits on Benefits Plan (checking hours, rates of pay, terminations).
  • Maintain accurate records for the company benefits programs such as Health Insurance BC, Group Benefits, WSIB/WCB/CSST, etc.
  • Handle RRSP enrollment and file upload to our provider on a biweekly basis.
  • Ensures legislative compliance and completion of various government reporting and filings.

  • 2+ years HRIS experience, preferably with experience using a web-based payroll/HRIS system (ADP, Ceridian, Peoplesoft, etc.)
  • Basic accounting and analytical skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Human Resources or equivalent
  • CHRP designation an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of laws and regulations affecting Canadian payroll.
