Director Consumer & Enterprise Insights

Our client, a leader in the telecommunications and media industry is looking for a Director of Consumer Insights to lead their Insights team. This position requires an empowering and mentorship style of leadership with proven experience cross-selling and building relationships inter-departmentally and enterprise wide.

This role requires a leader who has the technical expertise in research & analytics – but more importantly the ability to influence and shape the customer agenda through the power of insights. A proven thought leader who can think strategically and understands the big picture - while clearly presenting and articulating the important facts that will have impact and influence.

The Consumer & Enterprise Insights team supports internal business leaders through the provision of customer and marketplace knowledge to ensure business strategies are grounded in consumer/customer knowledge and insights.  The team leads all custom research strategy design, measurement, analysis and reporting across the consumer and enterprise business units. The role also oversees the management of syndicated research across the organization.
 
Main responsibilities
Custom Research
The team is responsible for all ad hoc/custom research projects conducted on an ongoing basis that support the business. Typically these projects would be in the following areas
  • Market Scoping and Understanding Research
  • Concept testing and new product development research
  • Voice of Consumer work
  • Pricing research
  • Shopper and retail research
  • Advertising and marketing ROI
 Market and Brand Health Tracking Research
  • Consumer business market share tracking research to understand share movements in the market and competitive landscape
  • Consumer and enterprise brand and communications tracking
  • Consumer and enterprise churn tracking
Syndicated Research
The team is responsible for management of different syndicated research services in terms of purchase and utilization within the consumer and enterprise business units. These include access to industry databases, published reports as well as aggregator services.
 
Project Management and Research Expertise
  • Oversee day-to-day management of multiple custom research projects
  • Manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Develop research plans to match business objectives outlining methodology, timing, deliverables
  • Serve as in-house expert on custom research, including all methods of qualitative and quantitative research, as well as syndicated tools
  • Assess each research initiative with a critical eye to ensure that it provides incremental learning, actionable insights and a positive customer and company benefit.  Know when both to recommend research and when to recommend against research
  • Understanding of effective research & sampling design and tradeoffs of various tactics, techniques and research supplier expertise
  • Manages the innovation agenda in the area of custom research.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in business, consumer behavior, market research or quantitative discipline (MBA preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience in marketing, market research, analytics
  • Knowledge of telecommunications and media businesses preferred
  • Skilled with influencing, generating consensus and negotiating at the executive level
  • Experience leading, coaching and performance managing a team. Emphasis will be on encouraging a consultative style of business partnering within the team when supporting internal clients across the organization
  • Experience with managing and executing within the perimeters of a budget
  • Experience both on client and supplier side of consumer insights preferred
  • Experience includes complex, strategic research projects and using innovative methodologies
  • Experience with multivariate statistics, predictive modeling, regression models
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Word, Excel) and Outlook
