The Talent Company is pleased to be partnering with a leading retail organization that is looking for a Bilingual Human Resources Business Partner. This role will be based out of their office in Vaughan, Ontario or Montreal. The Human Resources Business Partner will be responsible for managing the day to day associate relations activities for multi-site retail locations in Quebec, Ontario and Eastern Canada. As a collaborative member of the People team, the HR Business Partner will determine stakeholder needs and be proactive in identifying, designing and implementing HR programs and solutions that are in alignment with the company's overall strategic priorities.

This position collaborates closely with the HR Director, internal stakeholders, resources and vendors to provide HR services to a region of retail stores such as associate relations, performance management, case management of disability and paid time off absences. This position will be responsible for using, leveraging and reporting on various HR systems such as HRIS and Payroll.

  • Provide consultant services to General Managers and Regional General Manager on people management issues.
  • Provide HR approval on all terminations occurring with the region, ensuring consistency of performance management practice, documentation and legislative requirements.
  • Provide leadership on issues related to the company culture. Ensure that HR policies and practices are designed to reinforce culture and encourage appropriate behaviours by management and non-management associates. This includes compliance to company programs such as health and safety, harassment and legislative requirements.
  • Identify issues which may affect associate commitment & effectiveness through store visits, meetings with field representatives etc.
  • Collect and prepare all data required for investigations to ensure legislative compliance.
  • Advise on policy writing and required adjustments based on field observations and trends.
  • Communicates and partners with all associates regarding performance concerns, progressive counseling, work or work/life issues; policy issues; requests for information. Will advise on progressive counseling to the point of termination.
  • Conduct Exit interviews and trend retention data.
  • Assist with the development, delivery and/or implementation of training programs to support operations and company growth.
  • Develop policies, procedures and internal processes that ensure organizational effectiveness and support business goals
  • Identify high risk areas of the business and partner with partner with management team as required to initiate various Human Performance Improvement (HPI) efforts
  • Identify organizational HR Business needs, assist senior management with strategic planning and change management efforts; evaluate organizational performance effectiveness and identify areas for improvements to HR policy and internal processes as required
  • Assist with additional HR Business projects as required
  • Plan, develop and implement claims management plans including facilitation and management of graduated return to work plans.
  • Communicating with employees, and manager to manage claims, field questions and provide support through phone calls, emails and letters.
  • Partner with the Benefits Administrator to track leaves/ensuring the appropriate paperwork is being filed.
  • For maternity/parental leaves send out appropriate letters and follow up with managers and associates
  • Facilitate New Mother Transition conversations with associates and managers to educate on the Maternity/Parental Leave process – this would include exiting, re-entering the organization, performance review & merit implications.
  • Assist General Manager and Regional General Manager in managing recruitment process from start to end - activities include: creation of job postings, resume screening, communication of job offers to candidates, and reference/background checks.
  • Manage applicant tracking site (ATS) including updating job postings, managing users and closing postings.
  • Provide support and resources in the creation of development plans for associates and succession candidates on (including launch and utilization of education/tuition programs, mentorship program)
  • Serve as an advisor and coach. Work closely with business leaders to offer expert advice, guidance and counsel on organization effectiveness, including but not limited to employee engagement and change management.

  • University degree, preferably in human resources or business.
  • 5-8 years progressive HR experience in a multi-site retail organization.
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams and multi-channel organizations.
  • Able to articulate vision and clearly communicate as well as delegate expectations between internal customers and vendors. Success in this role will be highly dependent on the incumbents’ ability to develop cross functional relationships and foster strategic partnerships with both internal and external contacts.
  • Able to effectively manage tight deadlines within multiple conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to think conceptually, influence others, and balance hands-on execution.
  • Completion of CHRP designation is required.
  • Knowledge of HR regulations, legislation and best practices. Experience in managing employee relations within a multi-site environment is an asset.
  • Availability for frequent travel, including overnight stays; travel requirement of up to 50%.
  • Must be fully bilingual (French/English).
