Compensation Specialist

The Talent Company is pleased to be partnering with one of the leading media companies located in Downtown core, Toronto for a Compensation Specialist position. 

  • Responsible for providing guidance, support and advice on compensation philosophy, policies and guidelines across all levels of the organization;
  • Reviews, researches, and provides recommendations for updates to compensation related policies;
  • Plans, develops and manages the compensation system and ensure its integrity and ensures compliance with federal and provincial Pay Equity legislation;
  • Manages the job evaluation process by collaborating with HR business partner team, evaluating role mandates against job evaluation tools, engaging senior management for decision making and retaining rigorous recordkeeping system of JE results
  • Maintains and develops the company's grade/salary structure
  • Project manages and administers annual merit review process including establishing timelines and process,  gathering and compiling data, summarizing and submitting recommendations to senior leadership for approvals, implementing approved changes and preparing employee communication statements
  • Analyzes and administers annual variable compensation (e.g. short term and long term incentive) programs
  • Ensures meticulous recordkeeping and security of Solium Shareworks equity recordkeeping system
  • Supports sales compensation programs designs through analyzing sales compensation models developed by the business
  • Researches and makes recommendations on recognition philosophy and programs
  • Through research and analysis of compensation and other workplace surveys, generating reports and data on compensation market trends and based on findings provide guidance and recommendations on future initiatives to senior management
  • Designs and produces key performance business and compensation metrics reports and other statistical reports aligned with business needs to support People and management decision-making
  • Provides support for People projects, business driven projects and initiatives that encompass any and all aspects of compensation management and analysis
  • Develops compensation business requirements for Human Capital Management (HCM) system including analysis, testing and working closely with project team and external vendors for implementation and continuing as HCM compensation lead
  • Keeps abreast of total rewards trends by attending seminars/webinars and reading industry updates

  • Sound organizational and time management skills with ability to organize and prioritize complicated and conflicting agendas
  • Proven ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary projects and work in a collaborative manner
  • Sound understanding of compensation and total rewards principles and legislation
  • Sound working knowledge of computerized HR systems with proven ability to cost payroll data and compile statistical information
  • Expert level of Microsoft Excel’s higher functions and Word mail merge, with good level of understanding of PowerPoint
  • Values the importance of statistical integrity through attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative in tasks and projects
  • Attain/working towards Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Compensation Management Specialist (CMS) designations
