HR Manager (13-15 month contract)

Our client in the Telecommunications Industry is looking for a Human Resources Manager for a maternity leave contract (13-15 months).

Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources & Administration, the Human Manager is responsible for supporting all human resource activities and internal clients by assisting in the development, implementation, continuous enhancement and consistent application of employment practices and programs, providing advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation; as well as, coordinating the resolution of specific policy-related and procedural concerns and inquiries.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance and coaching to Supervisors/Managers on company policies, procedures and employment practices; 
  • Promote communication with employees and between Managers and their employees, by establishing and chairing committees, ensuring visibility in the workplace, conducting surveys and choosing effective methods of communication tailored to the specific work units and recipients; 
  • Supervise the HR & Corporate Services Coordinator including development, training and performance management; 
  • Collect, track, analyze and interpret workforce statistics and demographics to identify trends, areas of risk, strengths, weakness and opportunities and make recommendations; 
  • Reviews and updates employment policies and programs to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and best practices; 
  • Monitors and approves the biweekly payrolls, and maintains proficiency with the payroll and benefits administration to be a capable back up for the Human Resources Coordinator as required;
  • Prepare accurate job descriptions and maintain the Job Evaluation System to ensure competitive and equitable compensation strategies;
  • Management of the North American employee group benefit plans, related service providers and brokers including; the annual renewal and design of policies and plans, continuous review of plans to identify opportunities for enhancement based on industry trends, control plan costs and ensure appropriate levels of service to participants.
  • Coordinates the annual appraisal process and provides guidance/coaching and training to managers and employees;
  • Proactively leads health and safety initiatives to prevent injury and illness including participation on and providing guidance to the Joint Health Safety Committee, maintaining safety programs, policies, training and awareness to drive continuous improvement on safety behaviors and comply with applicable OHS legislation;
  • Manages claims for Occupational and Non-Occupational illnesses and monitors progress of employees who are on return to work or modified programs;
  • Provide direction, support and maintain records for employee training and development, where applicable develop and deliver training on HR related topics;
  • Coordinates recruitment activities, provides direction, guidelines and support to Managers during process, prepares job postings, announcements and offer letters, participates in interviews, and ensures lawful practices are followed through process;
  • Manages the relationship and process with temporary labour vendors for hourly recruitment;
  • Onboarding of new candidates including internal communications and orientation;
  • Conceives of and organizes appropriate employee events to promote teambuilding and positively impact employee morale;
  • Assist with various HR/Corporate projects as required and assigned;
  • Performs all tasks in accordance with established Safe Work Practices and ISO Standard Operating Procedures; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of related human resources experience within the manufacturing or technology sector performing similar duties as listed above; 
  • University degree or College Diploma in Human Resources combined with a CHRL Designation or be working towards; 
  • Strong knowledge of Employment practices and legislation in Canada as it relates to Human Rights, Employment Standards and Occupational Health and Safety; 
  • Experience with US or international employment legislation and practices would be an asset;
  • Working knowledge of payroll principles and legislation within Canada, experience with US payroll would be an asset;
  • Experience working with an HRIS and automated payroll software (“ADP Workforce Now” would be an asset);
  • Demonstrated ability to build and develop professional, and responsive relationships;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects; influence and coach others without authority;
