Assistant General Manager

Our client, a worldwide leader in Transit solutions has retained the services of The Talent Company to search for an Assistant General Manager. There is a formal succession plan in place to assume the General Manager role in 2018.
As Operations Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing operational performance including the successful management of client services and SLA’s, people leadership (union and non-unionized), governance, internal efficiencies and effectiveness and execution of the organizations local/regional business plan.


•   Accountability for daily operations while ensuring quality and timely service of client commitments are met in accordance with SLA’s;
•   Maintains an operation that is safe, efficient and customer service oriented with a focus on continuous improvement;
•   Maintains a sound level of organizational awareness by leveraging functional expertise (finance, legal, procurement, human resources, risk management, information technology, maintenance etc) and gaining support for tactical and strategic initiatives;
•   Ensures good governance measures (KPI’s, SLA’s, Health & Safety, SOP’s etc) are in place as a means to communicate organizational health; 
•   Develops and manages a budget and forecast. Works in participation with the corporate office for contract procurement, operational analysis, and large-scale price proposals;
•    In partnership with Human Resources, ensure talent capability and development is a primary focus. This includes training, recruiting, hiring and performance management;

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation or related field;
  • Leadership experience within the transit sector is preferred;
  • More than 7 years of management experience is required;
  • Leadership experience within union and non-unionized environments including labor relations and union grievance issues;
  • Experience providing services to any/all levels of government;
  • Ability to manage cost control and financial/budget experience for multiple locations;
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills;
  • Ability to build consensus, influence and build trust and credibility for all levels of the organization.
